VIII Interdisciplinary Seminar on Modernity and Virtue in Jesuit Culture (16th-17th Centuries): Paradigm Shift.

It was held on October 29 and 30, 2024, at the UNED Faculty of Education and was jointly organized by the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Group (GEMYR) and the Comillas Pontifical University (UPC).

A total of twelve speakers participated: Professors Henar Pizarro, Mario Ramos, Jesús Folgado, Carmen Márquez, and Eugenia Ramos from the UPC. Researchers from the University of Valladolid (Javier Burrieza), CEU-San Pablo (Enrique Sánchez Costa), Rey Juan Carlos University (Lía Viguria), and Civilitas Europa (Ricardo Rovira) also participated. The Faculty of Education of the UNED was represented by Professors Javier Vergara, Fermín Sánchez Barea, Guillermo Arquero, and Beatriz Comella, the seminar coordinator. 

The presentations focused on the paradigm shift in the theory and practice of virtue in the cultural, social, and political spheres during the 16th and 17th centuries, emphasizing the contributions of the Society of Jesus. 

The presentations from the Seminar "Modernity and Virtue in Jesuit Culture (16th-17th Centuries): Paradigm Shift" will be published by Dykinson Publishing. 

In parallel to the Seminar, during the last week of October, an exhibition of the publications promoted by the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Group (GEMYR) from 2006 to 2024 was organized in the lobby of the North Campus Library (Faculty of Education, UNED).
